​Why “Maverick”?

​“Maverick”...What’s the story?

Occasionally people will comment on our name. It’s very different than what the average acupuncture or hypnosis center might go by. If you were to Google “Acupuncture near me”, you’ll find a whole list of places with fanciful names like “Purple Lotus of the Wisdom Buddha with Healing Hands of Light” or some such.
Well, we’re a little different, in many ways, and it all starts with our name.

How we became Maverick Wellness is a process that’s happened over time. 

The short story is that we started out as Maverick Square Acupuncture, in a little office on Maverick St. in East Boston. As we added other healing modalities, “Acupuncture” was replaced with “Wellness”.

But then, The Universe picked us up and dropped us in Quincy Center!

I suppose we could have renamed the clinic to something like “Quincy Acupuncture” or “South Shore Acupuncture and Hypnosis”, but something didn’t feel quite right about that. I decided to hang on to it for the time being, and wait to see what would unfold. I’m revisiting all of this now, because the last few years have been vastly transformative, and as we sail into a new decade, the way we work and what we have to offer is transforming as well.

So, what’s in a name?

Mav·er·ick  /ˈmav(ə)rik/
Noun: an unorthodox or independent-minded person.
an independent individual who does not go along with a group or party.
Similar: Individualist, nonconformist, free spirit, unconventional, original, trendsetter, bohemian, eccentric, outsider, rebel, dissenter, dissident

Well myyyyyyyyy goodness!

What started out as a name based on a physical location, has taken on a greater meaning. Coming from a mainstream medical family where my mother was a nurse for 40 years, and I was expected to become a medical doctor, I can personally attest to the fact that I’ve spent my whole life bucking the system and challenging societal expectations, BUT…..

This isn’t about me, dear reader. If you are here reading this, YOU are a maverick.

You are here because you are looking for something greater in your life than the mere absence of disease. You want to THRIVE. You know that there’s more to managing your health than your annual visit with your PCP, and maybe you’re sick of all the meds they keep throwing at you. Maybe, like me, you’re coming up on that half century mark, and you refuse to accept the middle aged spread and accompanying aches and pains that you’ve been told always go with it. Maybe you’re just plain DONE with ticking off all the boxes of everything you’ve been told you were supposed to do, and you’re ready to make some sweeping life changes.

I know why you’re here, Maverick. You’re here to totally transform, and to burst forth into a new dimension of your true self.
