FITCHBURG ACUPUNCTURE
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a process where the participant is gently guided into a state of focused attention, concentration, and suggestibility.
While many people think of hypnosis as something that makes people sleepy and zoned out, truthfully, people undergoing hypnosis are actually actively participating in the process and their awareness and concentration is increased.
There are many myths and misconceptions about hypnosis that usually stem from what people have seen in movies or on TV, but in reality, hypnosis is a valid therapeutic tool, shown to have well documented beneficial effects on the body and mind.
What does Hypnosis help with?
Most people think of hypnosis for smoking cessation, weight loss, or overcoming fears. What many people don't know is that hypnosis can be life changing for people struggling with everyday problems such as anxiety, PTSD, depression, laco of focus or motivation, chronic pain, labor and delivery, sports performance, and more!
What happens during a Hypnosis session?
The first thing we do is simply sit and talk. We'll discuss your goals and determine what obstacles might need to be cleared in order for you to achieve them. Once we have all the information we need, I'll create a customized program, tailor made, just for you. When it's time for us to do our hypnotic trancework, it goes something like this...
First, we'll make sure you're comfortably seated, so you get a real opportunity to relax. If you're having an in person session in my office, you'll have the option of using a weighted blanket on our comfy heated massage tables. If your session is virtual (we have clients all over the US and Canada!) then you'll want to find a quiet place where you can be undisturbed, and headphones are highly recommended. We'll chat for a bit, and then all you need to do is listen to the sound of my voice, and enjoy the hypnotic journey. Afterward, you'll feel relaxed and refreshed, and we'll discuss any self care strategies for you to employ until our next session.
Are you gonna make me bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken?
I like to respond to this first question with another question...if I could make people do anything I want with Hypnosis, don't you think I'd be hypnotizing people to go buy me beautiful things and rob some banks? I'd be driving a Ferrari and sitting on a giant pile of money right now! ALL hypnosis is self hypnosis, and I am merely your guide on the journey. Hypnosis is not mind control, and it's not at all like what you see in the movies.
Can I really be hypnotized?? / "You can't hypnotize ME! I'm too strong willed for that!"
There is only a very small percentage of the population that is not a good candidate for hypnosis, and it has nothing to do with being either "weak minded" or "strong willed." Just about everyone can achieve the state of hypnotic trance...if they WANT to! That being said, if someone is resistant to the process and refuses to participate, they will be unlikely to receive the full benefit of the session. Hypnosis is an interactive and collaborative process, that is not done TO you, but WITH you.
So, did you go to school for this? What training does a Hypnotherapist have?
In addition to my Master's degree in Acupuncture, I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist through the ICBCH, as well as the NGH. I am also certified as a Hypnosis Instructor for both organizations, and I teach several classes a year to students from all over the United States and Canada.
Is Hypnosis covered by insurance?
At Fitchburg Acupuncture, we do not bill health insurance carriers for Hypnosis. You are welcome to ask your HSA / FSA plans if you can use those benefits for Hypnosis sessions. You can find our current rates for Hypnosis and various programs by clicking the "Schedule Now" button at the top of the page.
